We are all enmeshed in the cancerous pursuit of security, and in that pursuit ,we throw our lives beneath the wheels of routine, and before we know it our lives are gone!!!!!, ( sterling Hayden, The Wanderer, great night watch book)good luck Mate.

Hey Jacob. I’m planning to set sail in January 2022 on a singled handed westward circumnavigation in a Flicka 20. I have some questions for a seasoned sailor like yourself if you would be so kind to help he with advice.
    1. Any advice on crossing the Indian ocean and around the cape of good hope?
    2. How do I document my circumnavigation to prove that I really did it?
    3. Should I sail directly for the straights of Torres or sail but the east cost of ‘Australia then through the straight?

Any helpful advice will be MUCH appreciated

    Steve.

Hi Steve, sorry for a late reply, must have missed your comment.

      1. To be honest I won’t be able to offer much help on this, due to changing life circumstances I was unable to complete my trip and never made it beyond the south Pacific. Regarding the Cape of Good Hope, I had intended on spending time in the Mediterranean Sea via the Suez Canal

      2. Interesting question, this was probably more of an issue back in the day before digital media. It’s also not the type of endeavor which receives much official scrutiny these days since it’s been done so many times before, beyond potentially someone writing off your stories as a drunk old salt at the bar (unless you keep photographic evidence to hand). If you want a steadfast and undeniable indicator of your journey, using a satellite tracker like PredictWind will provide all the evidence you need. A full log of the journey plus photos is also pretty substantial evidence.

      3. I was going to hit the coast of Australia to see some friends and provision but if you’re not concerned with these issues and the weather during your passage permits, you could just go on through.
